AWStats and finishing the Server

November 18th, 2006 · No Comments

I didn’t do a lot of work on the server today - I did clean the office and arrange the computers so I can can be more efficient - maybe i should add a pic.

I did install AWstats from Sourceforge . I use AWstats on my commercial hosting account (It’s a personal website on a commercial server), and I’ve been very impressed with it. The thing I was too naive to realize before is that these log files actually only read the file at /var/log/apache2/access.log. I guess I assumed these tools used server side scripitng , databases , and POST/GET to collect data.. turns out Apache keeps it all on its own. I tried to install a AWstats plugin called “AWstats Multiple Statistics ” for single-ip servers that host multiple domains, but the file was compressed as *.b6.tar.gz, and gzip SWORE that it was an unfamiliar compression. I gave up pretty quickly - I’ll figure it out later.

My last project for the night will be to add some content to one of the sites that I want to try to make a small profit on. I haven’t figured out exactly how to to capitalize on it yet, but I’ll add Google Adsense to it tongiht. Hopefully if I add some relavent content I’ll get a little traffic. I had planned on keeping these entirely seperate, but I guess I’ll let the cat out of the bag and identify it as www.SL7PM.com . SL7PM is a Intel Socket 478 3 GHz processor. I picked up the domain name on a whim about a year ago and decided it would be useful for my hosting entertainment experiment.

I’m off to bed, but before I do, I’ll add Google Adsense to SL7PM and look at some PEAR calls. I just started looking at PEAR last night, so I’m going to need quite a bit of practice. I sort of regret learning to program procedurally in an Object-Oriented world.
