Guidance Web, Ella, CLAMPP, and Java

February 19th, 2007 · 1 Comment · Java, LAMPP

I spent the day upgrading the server applications from my old Guidance Web server, which was an old D845BG desktop motherboard to the IBM x series 345 server. The initial data transfer was very easy – PHP files aren’t compiled and will move very easily from one system to another (at least, they did in this circumstance). I did have a little more trouble with the MySQL dump – the un-encrypted data moved fine, but all of my encrypted passwords had to be reset. This was a bit of an inconvenience, but it didn’t take too long.

I also upgraded this installation of WordPress to 2.1, Ella. This is my first post since then, and I haven’t seen much difference, but I don’t really use all of the features – i.e. i need to start adding some pictures and media.

Tomorrow is the meeting of my local computer club, the CLAMPP – Clarksville Linux Apache PHP and Perl. I don’t expect many folks to show up, but we’re going to discuss developing our codeos.com site- it will eventually (?) become a tutorial site that focuses on distributing introduction to coding videos for the beginners.

My wife had company in from her home town this weekend and I got to spend some time with one of her friends, Daniel. He spends his days using Java to manipulate data for a hospital chain. I hadn’t been too eager to learn Java before talking to him, but i think I’m going to start looking more seriously at it.

I just installed Ella myself. Decided to jump back into blogging, but I just couldn’t get into the hosted blogging services. Much more fun to do everything yourself. http://www.babafree.com/blog

I’m glad you got your server up and running. I think in the future I might look into the hardware aspect of everything again. Right now I’m stuck in the realization that I don’t know a thing about JavaScript and I really need to know. Curiously, though, I scored a 90% on the w3schools.com javascript quiz.

    Go CLAMPP!!
