Wow! I was SO impressed at how easy it was to connect to my Ubuntu Gutsy laptop from my iPhone using VNsea.
I’m assuming if you’ve found this post, you’ve searched for VNSea, and having done so, you’ve jailbroken your iPhone using any of a million different techniques. If you haven’t jailbroken your iPhone, what are you waiting for? I have found it to be a very fun process, though it may take some time to learn. The iPhone is (in my experience) unbrickable — Even if you screw EVERYTHING up, you can generally plug into iTunes and restore.
To connect to your Ubutnu desktop using an iPhone with VNsea:
- In Ubuntu, go to System -> Remote -> Remote Desktop.

- You MUST click the top box, “Allow others to view your desktop”, but the other boxes are at your discretion. (Be sure to keep security in mind if you’re not on a local network!)

- On your iPhone, open Installer and choose VNsea under Network, and choose “Install”.
- When your iPhone rebuilds the icons, choose VNsea, and click the + button in the upper right.

- Your configuration will be specific to your setup, but it was very easy. There is was no need for a port on the address, and the Display # came from the trailing colon on the Remote desktop setup where it says “vncviewer …. … :0″
Name: Whatever you want (d520)
Address: The IP of the ubuntu installation (192.168.1.103)
Password: the password for the current ubuntu user (?- other passwords worked!)
Display: 0 (unless your remote desktop preferences had a different display #).
- Click “Save” and you will be returned to the list of VNC servers. From there, just select the name of the server, and you’re in!

- Controlling the desktop is rather difficult (for me) but it’s a neat trick!
Hey – this isĀ my new attempt at blogging for YOU rather than me – i’d appreciateĀ a comment! -hb

vnsea is rubbish try touchpadpro it is on big bosses repo and is far better because it is faster and it has way more features
first, touchpadpro is built on vnsea. second, they’re two completely different programs for two completely different purposes. third, since touchpadpro is a stripped-down version of vnsea, vnsea is the one with “way more features.”
can you give us the real name of the vnc server for us non-ubunto linux users? “remote desktop” is very generic.
