I ran the 1.1.3 soft update on my iPhone yesterday, and initially had “kinda” good results – most of my apps continued to work, and my summerboard was intact. I had the bright idea to rebuild my install from the ground up (the old windows mentality of “a fresh install keeps it smooth”) and I was very disappointed to discover that apps installed natively under 1.1.3 are far less likely to work well.
I installed 1.1.1, jailbroke it, then upgraded to 1.1.2, jailbroke it, and then used the soft upgrade in the installer to upgrade to 1.1.3. When all of that was done I began restoring some of my favorite apps (or trying to anyway!).
One of my primary apps – iFlickr, will not authorize now. MIM (Make it mine) is broken, Customize doesn’t work at all… and I haven’t tried many other apps. (MobileCast for direct downloading of podcasts works fine, as does LocateMe).
I will play with this again tomorrow, but I have a plan – I THINK that the best way to get things working well with 1.1.3 is to run the updates up to 1.1.2, then install all of your favorite apps, and THEN run the 1.1.3 update. It might be wise to wait a few more weeks before trying to install a lot of software natively on 1.1.3 as the dev’s haven’t had time to do patches yet.
My suggestion?
- Restore to 1.1.1
- jailbreak
- Upgrade to 1.1.2
- jailbreak
- Install all of your favorite apps.
- Do the soft upgrade to 1.1.3
- Wait for developers to patch their software for 1.1.3.
I haven’t tried it myself yet, but I have a gut feeling that it ought to work a little better than installing apps on 1.1.3.
That is very interesting, please posting your progress. Let me know if I can help get iFlickr running on your iPhone.
