Helix3 mounted a broken HFS+ filesystem (MacBook with a jacked HDD) when no
other tool would allow me to access it – couldn’t dd it, couldn’t mount it
on Disk Utility, not recognized by Mac, Windows, or Linux; single user would
mount but only read-only (could not force rw for anything!) which prevented file
transfer; disk warrior wouldn’t fix it, fsck wouldn’t repair it, it would
enter target mode but not display drives… But the helix live cd mounted it
and let me scp/ssh files from it (when knoppix and Ubuntu failed -even with
hfsplus and forced options). I’m delighted.
This might be worth sharing with other people trying this recovery. The
specific error reported by fsck -fy in single user mode was 0xe0030005. dd
reported a bad block and had exit status 1.
