I have a firm expectation that by the time I’m in the mood to expect a product, the geniuses in industry will have already produced it and I can lay my money on the table with a smile. As far as I can tell, there are lots of companies manufacturing unmanaged 8-port gigabit switches, and lots of companies offering 4-port managed routers, but after several hours of surfing, I cannot locate an 8-port gigabit router. YES, I could use any computer on my network as a gateway, but I’m spoiled enough to enjoy DHCP, firewall, and switching all in one box – heck, I’d even throw in a few extra bucks for a wireless connection and VPN.

I implore you, if you’ve discovered this product, please let me know! I would certainly prefer a netgear product, but at this point i’d be willing to take one manufactured by Mattel.
